Mediterranean Pine Shoot Beetle scripted presentation

This presentation will introduce you to the Mediterranean pine shoot beetle, Tomicus destruens. This species has not been found in the United States, however a related species, Tomicus piniperda, was introduced and has become widely established in the Midwest and northeast. USDA considers T. piniperda to be an actionable pest and they continue to work to limit its spread. USDA has been surveying for T. destruens and other species of Tomicus but we ask that trained members of the Sentinel Plant Network keep their eyes out for them as well. Monitoring for the Mediterranean pine shoot beetle will be difficult because damage symptoms look like those caused by other insects, drought or stress.

**This pest is not known to be in North America so these training and diagnostic materials are intended for public garden and other green industry professionals working on the front lines.
